CRS Drops to 300 in latest Alberta Express Entry PNP Draw

Alberta Express Entry PNP Draw

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) recently published the results of the latest Alberta Express Entry PNP Draw which was held on May 13th, 2020.

During the latest Alberta Express Entry PNP draw, Alberta sent a total of 191 invitations to Express Entry candidates for applying provincial nomination for permanent residence while the minimum  Comprehensive Ranking Scores (CRS) score was 300.

It is a high chance that IRCC will held limited Express Entry draws only for PNP and CEC candidates for the time being in response to COVID-19. It is unclear how long these restrictions will remain in place.

Due to recent changes in the Alberta nomination process due to COVID-19, Alberta will only consider those candidates who is already living and working in the Alberta province. Normally, it doesn’t require any job offer from Alberta’s Employers.

Express Entry manages applications for three of Canada’s main economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

Express Entry candidates require to get a nomination from Alberta after applying and if they secure the nomination then they receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence in a subsequent draw from the Express Entry pool.

This Alberta Express Entry stream of invitations draw is a part of Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) and doesn’t require a job offer from any Alberta Employer but AINP says it may give priority to candidates who meet the following three criteria:

  • a job offer and/or work experience in Alberta;
  • a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; or
  • a parent, child or sibling already living in the province.

The CRS ranks eligible candidates for immigration to Canada through Express Entry under the following components:

  • core human capital factors;
  • accompanying spouse or common-law factors;
  • skill transferability factors; and
  • factors relating to a provincial nomination, a qualifying offer of arranged employment, Canadian study experience, a sibling in Canada, and/or French language ability.

Alberta does not provide a list of eligible occupations for issuing the invitations.

In 2020, Alberta issued 1,398 invitations to Express Entry candidates so far, while in 2019, Alberta issued a total of 6,884 invitations through the Alberta Express Entry Stream. It has become an effective program for overseas candidates.
